How to tell my mom about my period?

Okk so i knew i was getting my period and told my mom about my symptoms and all of that stuff so she told me to wait.Then i got a dark broown discharge and i read up on it and it said it was most likely your period. i asked my mom about if you would get it before your period but she didn't help much because we are both uncomfortable about talking about it. so now i got my period but i used panty liners instead of pads i had it for 5 days and now how am i going to tell her that i got it???
