How Do you manually open the hatch back from the inside on a 2001 Toyota Sienna?

Some one tried to break into my car and broke the metal piece that you depress(?) when opening the boot from the outside. I can hear that the mechanism engages and disengages when I lock or unlock the car but I can't figure out how to get it open. Is their some sort of safety latch on the inside that I just haven't found?
